Montefrio is within easy reach of some of the major cultural centres of southern Spain: Granada, Cordoba and Seville. At 40 kms drive away it is ideally placed for festivals taking place in Granada such as those during Semana Santa, as well as visiting the world renowned Alhambra Palace. Although a world away from the Spain of the Costas the coast is only an hour and a half's drive, and there are many quieter beaches in which you can enjoy sardines grilled over a wood fire in a beach cafe. The farmhouse contains an information pack to enable you to make the most of your stay, and the English-speaking staff in the Montefrio Tourist Office are friendly and helpful. Malaga itself, birthplace of Picasso, is a thriving working city and well worth a visit, not least for its excellent tapas bars. |
Places to visit within easy reach of Montefrio As well as the obvious attractions of Granada, Cordoba and Seville, some particular favourites of ours are: This massive outcrop of calcareous rock is the highest place in the Montefrio area ( 1604 metres/5262 feet). You can drive or walk up to the lunar landscape of its summit for sweeping views of the entire region The cave houses of Guadix are a fascinating excursion , and the quieter stretch of coast west of Malaga and before Torremolinos is within easy reach, should you want a day at the beach. |
